Here are Some Animated Movie Mistakes

animation mistakes

March 28th, 2019

Hollywood is focusing on big budget blockbusters and superhero movies, one of the most popular genres of film for decades has been animation. Disney started making a name for themselves in this field all the way back in 1937 with the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a film that is still heralded as a classic to this day.

The genre has become even more popular now thanks to the wide range of films that animation can deliver. Pixar, DreamWorks, and Illumination films are traditionally family friendly adventures with similar looks. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. made the R-rated Sausage Party in 2016, while Sony helped push the boundaries of the genre last year through Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse . Likewise, smaller studios such as Laika, Aardman, and Studio Ghibli have created some beloved modern classics of their own.

In the latest Screen Rant video, we take a look at the genre as a whole, but instead of running through the best animated movies, we're focusing on some minor errors that some of the major ones didn't catch. There's no obvious explanation for why these mistakes were made, but are instead just the result of everyone on the animation team and involved with these movies didn't notice them. These can be as small as an instrument changing between shots in Lilo & Stitch to something as surprising as the writing on Woody's boot in Toy Story 2 being flipped. Check out the video above for deeper dives on these hiccups and several others.

Most of these mess ups are thankfully not going to ruin any of their respective films, but they do show just how difficult it can be to make sure everything does line up. For most of these films, there are hundreds of animators involved at various stages of the process, so no single person or team is working on every shot in the movie. The complicated nature of the animation process makes most of these mistakes easily forgivable.
